As the city emerged from the worst of the pandemic, it became clearer than ever that Sheffield needed a new economic plan. A plan to deliver more inclusive and sustainable growth.
A conversation needed to begin inside and outside of the Council and the city’s institutions about how to build a new set of goals to shape the future of Sheffield. Goals designed by the city, for the city.
The Sheffield City Partnership asked a few members to start that conversation. It quickly became clear that more diverse and community voices were needed. We were delighted to be asked to get involved, alongside representatives from Voluntary Action Sheffield, the Green Estate and Race Equality Commission. A conversation that started out with just a few has grown slowly to include a broader group of people.
This group have no authority to decide what happens next. All we know is that as the cost-of-living hits hard, the weather changes and as the future becomes more uncertain the need for Sheffield to have some clear City Goals becomes more urgent.
So far only three important decisions have been made.
It is time to confront the challenges facing our city and what the future holds by moving forward together.
This is not another consultation that leads nowhere. We need your help to answer the questions we are posing.
Everyone must have a voice and be heard in shaping Sheffield’s future.
Everyone is invited to join this conversation and everyone in Sheffield has the opportunity to shape our shared future. It is about our city’s institutions working harder to hear genuine community views. It is about drawing in others to build capacity to fix things that are broken and make Sheffield better for everyone.
No one is truly in charge. It is messy. It is complicated. It will sometimes be scary and frustrating but together we can all shape a bright future for Sheffield.
